Dr. Dorothea Papathanasiou-Tsourt holds degrees in Classics and Germanistics from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has studied History and Ethnology at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, where she also obtained an M.A. degree in Psycholinguistics. She earned her M.Sc. in Tourism Planning and her Ph.D. degree in Heritage Management at the University of the Aegean. She has studied Tourism Planning at the Universita Autonoma di Barcelona and Universita Ca Foscari Venezia. She is fluent in English, German, French, Italian, and Russian and has basic knowledge of Turkish. Her technical work experience is closely related to the development and implementation EU funded projects with over 100 applications in the last 20 years (Erasmus+; ERDF; ETCP; COSME; H2020; ENI/ENPI; ESF etc.). She is active in the tertiary education teaching Heritage Policy and Management at the Hellenic Open University and Cultural Policy and Development at the Cyprus Open University. As an active researcher she has produced more than 100 publications in the last 20 years. She is founding member of INTERPRET EUROPE, the European Association for the interpretation of heritage, resulting the C.I.P. Leader+ Transinterpret II Project in 2010, and a voting member at EUROPEANA and EUROPEANA Research. Since 2010 she is actively working in the Cultural and Creative Industries with focus on iBook and multimedia publications for heritage education and cultural tourism. She joined ARTIFACTORY in 2016, where she works in regional development with focus on cultural heritage and audiovisual productions.

Shunsaku Hashimoto is Full Professor and Associate Dean in Faculty of Global and Regional Studies at University of the Ryukyus, Japan. He is a member of Executive Committee of THERAA (Tourism and Hospitality Educators and Researchers Association of Asia).

His research area is Organizational Behavior, especially in Service Organizations. His back ground is very unique and combination of practical and academic. After graduation of undergraduate, he was working in the hotel for 6 years, then went to Scotland to learn hotel management at the post graduate course in University of Strathclyde. After finishing the course, he went back to Japan and working as a manager in The Hotel New Otani Osaka for 6 years. Then he moved to Drake Beam Morin Japan as a senior management consultant. During working in DBMJ, he got a license of counselor and also learning management at the graduate school. After working in DBMJ, as a counselor, he supported people to get a better life and a better job. He was also teaching at the university. Then he moved to Okinawa and is working as a professor in University of the Ryukyus.


Professor Dr. Metin Kozak

He holds a Ph.D. in tourism from Sheffield Hallam University, UK (2000). This work was nominated among the best three Ph.D. dissertations for the TQM award, an international award given by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EU-EFQM) for the best thesis in TQM.

Over the years he has sustained his research activities and published over 90 papers, shared his research findings at various international conferences held in a wide range of countries. He has also published and edited over 30 books on tourism marketing, tourist behavior, and sustainability.  He is the author of a book on Destination Benchmarking (CABI, 2004), which is still the most authoritative and comprehensive book on destination benchmarking to date. He has been involved in the editorial team of Anatolia where he is now acting as an editor-in-chief (www.tandf.co.uk/journals/rana). He is currently an editorial board member of over 20 journals.

His service activities are also equally impressive. Metin has taken active role in the organization of various national and international tourism and hospitality conferences, e.g. Advances in Tourism Marketing Conference, Graduate Research Conference in Tourism and Hospitality, Interdisciplinary Tourism Research Conference, and International Academy for Studies of Tourism, TRC Conference, AIEST Conference, and CPTHL Symposium etc. He is the co–founder of the above first three conferences. Since 2007, he has been an elected member of the Tourism Research Centre, based in Austria. In 2015, he was inducted into the International Academy for Studies of Tourism.


Professor Dr. Cevdet AVCIKURT

Cevdet AVCIKURT received his Master’s Degree from the University of Surrey (1992) (UK) in Tourism Management and he obtained a PhD Degree at the University of Balikesir (1997). Currently, Mr. Cevdet  AVCIKURT is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at the University of Balikesir . Dr. AVCIKURT has extensive experience in the tourism and hotel industry. His research interests include tourism policy and marketing, tourism sociology and European Union issues. He is married with two children and speaks English and German.
